Summer Help for Your Gifted Teens’ Social Emotional Needs

School’s out – hooray!  With the school year over for some, or almost over for others, you as the parent of a gifted teen may be giving a sigh of relief. Or you may be already thinking about next school year, wondering how you can find summer help for your gifted teens’ social emotional needs this summer so next year isn’t so painful for them.

Gifted teens don’t have more social or emotional problems than other teens do, but they often have different ones.

So finding help for them can be challenging.

Sharon Barnes, LCSW, Therapist for Sensitive and Gifted, is now providing Summer Help for your Gifted Teens’ social emotional needs by offering an ACES Gifted Teens Summer Program!

This Free Webinar will introduce this program.

It is happening Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 6:30 pm MDT:

The ACES Gifted Teens Summer Program

Enables Gifted and Twice Exceptional Teens

To develop advanced social and emotional skills,

thereby becoming skilled social-emotional ACES,

By using nine targeted CASIGY™ ACES Social and Emotional Tools throughout the program.

  • One Program will meet locally in Littleton, Colorado, USA.
  • Another will meet virtually, by online video-chat, for those who are too far away to join locally.
  • Both will meet once a week for 7 weeks, the second week of June through the last week of July.

If your gifted teen has low self-esteem or self-confidence, difficulty making or keeping friends or frequent emotional distress, including anxiety or depression, this ACES Gifted Teens Summer Program may be just what you –and they– are looking for.

This will be an experiential, interactive and informative small group.  It will include opportunities for learning, creative expression, skill practice, sharing opinions and experiences, and more.

This ACES Gifted Teens Summer Program will help with:

  • How to understand and accept being Gifted – You’ll learn five ways being gifted is not better or worse than not being gifted, it’s just … different.
  • How to deal with the intense emotions that often go along with being gifted. How to avoid emotional eruptions, floods, and meltdowns and instead, channel your emotions constructively.
  • Multi-potentiality – what it’s like to have many interests and abilities and be pulled in many directions at once; you’ll how to deal with the pain of having to make choices among them,
  • The stress of being very different from your age-mates and even from other gifted teens. You’ll learn tools to use  in making peace with standing out from the crowd.
  • The Swiss Cheese Syndrome of Asynchrony – you’ll learn how to deal with having the great disparity between areas of great strength or outstanding ability while also having other areas that lag behind significantly.
  • How being Twice Exceptional is even more difficult than being gifted, and how to overcome the disadvantages and access the hidden benefits of being 2E.
  • When you have high ability, how do you know what is ‘enough’? You’ll learn how to set your expectations high enough but not too high. How to deal with others’ expectations of you, high or low.
  • The burden of feeling the need to be perfect and not make mistakes, but be an expert in everything you do. You’ll learn how to identify perfectionism when it shows up in your life, and how to let go of it.
  • Those who fly high often also dive deep – You’ll learn how to handle suicidal thoughts and urges, including how to think about them, when to reveal them to others, and what to do with them so they don’t do you in.
  • Speaking of flying high, you’ll learn how to fulfill your potential without flying so high that instead of reaching your goals, you crash and burn.
